Emmanuel
hosts gospel music concert Feb. 13
Emmanuel
is offering a free concert of contemporary gospel music by The Anointed
Brothers, a Seattle sextet, on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. in the
church’s remodeled sanctuary.
The group
performs
music they say is heavy in the Spirit with a sprinkling of traditional
rhythm and blues, truly “music for the soul.
The
group, which began in 1997 at the Greater Revival Church of God in
Christ in Seattle, released a CD in 2000, “I’m in the Hands,” and last
year – while based at the Primm Tabernacle African Methodist Episcopal
Church – recorded a CD “Tell Jesus.” They have music from the latter
album available for download online.
It
consists of Clifford Dumas on vocals and guitar, Larry Looney on bass
guitar, the Rev. Linton Weems Sr. on vocals and keyboards, Stanley
Friendship on drums, Jeremiah Beckwith Jr. on vocals and Willie
McClarron Jr. on vocals.
The Rev.
Weems, Dumas and Beckwith contribute original music and lyrics.
“With
God’s guidance, the gift and talent of music has continued to sustain me
through life,” says the Rev. Weems. “I am the paper; God is the pen that
allows me to write music as a testimony to his kingdom.”
“I learned as I moved though life that things are not
always going to go your way,” says singer and guitarist Dumas. “Those
life experiences and God’s expectations often tell me what to write.”
A freewill offering will be taken during the concert to
help the group’s ministry.
